Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The article submitted is in .docx format.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • The digital resource described in the article is associated to a Persistent Identifier (e.g. DOI) - see Data Policy section.
  • The author is aware of the policies of the journal, particularly the reviewing process and the Code of Conduct.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
  • The article is accompanied by the Authorisation and Disclaimer form for publication, completed and signed by all authors.

Author Guidelines

Data Papers

Submissions (approx. 5,000 words, excluding references) may be written in English or Italian. Manuscripts must be submitted electronically and comply with the journal’s guidelines.

Articles must include:

  • title;

  • author name(s), e-mail address(es), and affiliation(s);

  • an abstract (max. 200 words), in English;

  • at least five keywords, in English.

Only footnotes are permitted; endnotes are not accepted.

Figures and tables must include captions. Groups of floating elements are not accepted; each item must have its own caption.

Submissions must be in Word (.docx) format and follow the style guidelines provided in the template Template_article [EN] / Template articolo [IT].

References must follow the Chicago Manual of Style, 17th edition, author–date system. Authors are strongly encouraged to use Zotero to format their bibliographies, selecting the style Chicago Manual of Style 17th edition (author–date). Authors should provide DOIs wherever available.

Footnote markers should be placed after punctuation (where applicable). Abbreviations should be spelled out at first occurrence.

Authors who are not native speakers of English or Italian are asked to have their manuscript reviewed by a native speaker prior to submission. The editorial team is responsible only for minor revisions. Authors may be required to revise and resubmit their manuscript if necessary.

Data Summaries

Submissions follow the same requirements as Data Papers, except for length. The only word limit applies to the abstract (maximum 200 words), which constitutes the main text.

Where applicable, additional metadata required by the template are subject to specific limits indicated within the template itself.

Submissions must follow the template Template_summary.

Data Paper

Submissions welcome / Peer Reviewed

A data paper is a short scholarly article (maximum 5,000 words, excluding references). It includes the metadata of an online digital resource (identified by a persistent DOI), along with a description of its contents, research methodologies, and relevant bibliography.

Data Summary

Submissions welcome / Not Peer Reviewed

A data summary is a bibliographic record. It includes only metadata, a brief description, and a bibliographic reference to an online resource for which the author is responsible.

Responsibility for the formal accuracy of the data lies with the author and the editorial team.
